One of the things I initially said I would blog about was food. I haven’t given up on trying out new dishes. In fact, trying to help a certain stem cell transplant patient gain some weight has made me even more focused on good, comforting, and healthy food.
I’ve also found myself obsessed with feeding other creatures. Attempting to keep my new-found hummingbird friends coming to our terrace, I make sure the feeder is filled with a slightly more sugary mix than is standard. Having agonized over the untimely death of my betta, Sammie, I’m fish sitting a friend’s betta. I had offered to watch the fish while his owner is on an Arctic cruise before my fish died. This Sammy was my inspiration to get a betta. My friend is confident that I’m not a “fish killer” and that Sammie was a dud, but I’m constantly fretting that this very finicky fish will somehow end up belly up one morning.
But, back to food… The other night I tried two new recipes that I found both picture worthy and insanely satisfying. Got a thumbs up from the finicky human, too. Pan Fried Calamari with Chickpeas was a Turkish-inspired feast for the tastebuds. And, while it had been a while since I made crepes, I had to try Crespelle in Brodo. This Italian comfort food consists of cheese filled (I chose Pecorino Romano} crepes in a broth (I used Ginger Turmeric Bone Broth). While I randomly paired the two dishes, the combination was delightful!
